So what makes the RS-1 the most advanced bite indication in the world?

According to Kevin Nash it all started when he bumped into an old acquaintence in a pub. The guy who Kevin hadn’t seen for 20 years had his own very successful electronics business mainly in the automotive an military industries and he asked Kevin why he hadn’t produced any of his own alarms. Kevin being from an engineering background said that he hadn’t found anyone he was confident in working with up to that point, the guy proposed a meeting and Kevin agreed and was blown away by what the electronics firm could do for him so they decided to formulate a plan together and create an alarm that met all of the criteria on Kevin’s wish list… and the RS1 Siren was born.

Let’s take a look at the main features of the Nash Siren RS-1 Bite Alarm:

  • Bulletproof casing – the outer shell is made from the same material as police riot shields so should be pretty indestructible
  • Screw in stainless snag ears as standard
  • Illumination via a prism wheel which provides immediate visual indication even on bright days at any angle
  • Stealth mute function allows you to instantly silence the alarm while setting the rods
  • Integrated screw-in bobbin facility
  • All functions of the bite alarm can be adjusted via the remote control
  • Sensitivity feature that claims to be able to detect wind from line movement
  • Hard case supplied as standard

So what are the benefits?

  • Solid construction should ensure your alarms to do not break no matter how rough you are with them
  • No need for separate snag ears when fishing at angles
  • Immediate visual indication via the prism so you should strike the correct rod each and every time
  • Unique sensitivity system stops false bleeps in rough weather
  • Adjustments can be made via the remote while in the comfort of your bivvy so no more getting wet to turn the sensitivity down (nice!)

OK, so the jury is out on whether the Siren RS1 alarms look the nuts, but what’s going to make you buy a new set of alarms?

nash siren rs1 remote receiverIn my opinion the best feature of the new Nash Siren alarm system has to the remote functionality. Imagine its the middle of the night and its started blowing a hooligun out there, rain is lashing down and you are wrapped up warm and snug in your sleeping bag, inevitably you start getting the odd false bleep as the lines are being pulled about and you have to get out of the bag and put your boots on and change the sensitivity on the alarms getting soaked in the process. Wouldn’t it me nice if you could just pick up the remote from your bivvy table and instantly turn the sensitivity down and go back to sleep? That’s enough to change my mind… oh, and the remote floats! so if you drop it in the edge it should be a simple matter of scooping it out with your landing net.

Will a set of Nash Siren RS-1 bite alarms help catch me any more carp?
At the end of the day you still need to cast the bait in the right spot at the right time but when that target carp finally picks up the hookbait you need to know about it, and with the high levels of sensitivity and total waterproof reliability the Nash Siren RS-1 should give you a very good chance of knowing about it, then its up to you to get it on the bank.

Any Negatives?

  • Being brand new the jury is still out on their reliability but Nash say they have extensively tested them in all conditions so hopefully they are up to the job.
  • Looks… maybe not everyone’s cup of tea but they certainly are different from anything else on the market.
  • Cost… at £132 a pop, sure they are not the cheapest, it’s up to you to decide if the extra functionality is worth the cost.

There are a couple of negatives 1) No vibration sensing and 2) This is my biggest gripe the remote is huge and feels cheap Also I wonder how long the membrane buttons will last.
I have to say though all gripes aside even without the vibration sensing the alarms are nicely sensitive and with the remote being able to tweak the alarms without leaving the cover if my brolly in this cold weather has been a real bonus.
Overall a nice system but a little more refinement on the receiver night be nice
